Here they go doing their job!

It was fun watching the two tugs 'playing' around.

Plugging
away at the ice. Almost like like stirring up the ice in a drink.

When I got home this haunting sight welcomed me. A large freighter was arriving at the harbour and the way the sun was hitting the ship and the deep snow clouds behind it added a wonderful contrast....thank you Mother Nature.

If you are able to see the night sky you will spot a very Full Moon called the Hunters Moon.

Till next time.....

******** THESE PIX WILL HELP YOU TO 'CHILL OUT'!!!

I popped down to the harbour the other day a spotted the tug boats playing in an effort to break up the ice.

This ship is locked in ice and will stay until the harbour is completely melted.

There were a couple of guys fishing for Rainbow Trout and the Salt Mine is in the background.

The Canada Geese are enjoying a little swim.

************ A NIGHT WITH THE "BARD" ROBBIE BURNS!

Saturday found me full of awesome joy.

A dear friend from the days of my nurses' training found me on Facebook and OMG did the memories ever coming gushing back.
I was amazed that not only nearly 50 years has passed but we were able to remember so much that went on and the fact that no one has aged at least not from what I see is and it is awesome.....LOL!

Following a phone conversation we plan to meet up in non other than Florida during February.

I had been looking forward to the annual celebration of the "Bard" Robbie Burns.

I was under the assumption that the evening would be similar to last year which did not happen.
There were many suggestions following last years event and the organizers followed them.
There were not near as many people in attendance and the format for the evening changed which did not please me.

The food which was traditional Haggis, Bridies, Smiked Salmon, Scotch Eggs and sweets was presented on large platters and placed in the middle of the table which sat six people. This changed from last year and was great...no buffet line ups.

I loved how Rob Bundy portrayed Robbie Burns....he is such an excellent actor and he really enjoyed doing it.

There was a wonderful sing-a-long of some Scottish tunes like, I Love a Lassie, Wee Deoch 'n doris, I Belong to Glasgow, Scotland the Brave, Loch Lomond and My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean.
When my friend A.M. who has heard the last song many times but never read the words was 'shocked' in the last line of the last verse which say, "I dreamed my poor bonnie was dead" was shocked to the point of not knowing to laugh or cry....she laughed as we all did. A.M. just enjoyed the lovely lilting melody all these years.

The performance by the Celtic Blue Pipe Band in which they did several numbers was fantastic....I love that band!

I have three complaints and the first was the Master of Ceremonies, he talked way too much because he followed the 'big city' style and it just didn't work for me.
Also there were too many people walking around especially the wait staff who were from the Celtic Blue Pipe Band and the folks at the set up bar at the back of the room were way too noisy at the wrong times.

I lasted until the Celtic 'Achey Breaky' stuff stared and then I left. No, I didn't hang around for the singing of Auld Lang Syne!

I will think twice before attending next year.

In the photo is the program and the Crawford Pin on the right side and to the left is a wee piece of dried heather and at the bottom a feather and jewel pin. All are resting on my shawl which is the Ancient Lindsey.

NO SCIATICA!!!!

What a relief that is. When I went to my massage therapist he informed me the my pain was NOT from the sciatic nerve but the I.T Band!!! He showed me some exercises to do and he mentioned that I should also check out what info was on the internet about the syndrome.

I know what you're thinking....what the heck is the I. T. Band? Well, I. T. stands for Iliotibial Band ITBS OR I.T. Band Syndrome.

The band is attached to the hip at one end and runs down the outside of the thigh and is anchored to the knee over to the tibia which is one of the two bones in the lower leg.

The pain on the outside of my right knee also radiates up and into my hip...so sore! I have been applying cold compresses up and down the area and resting it.
I have since learned that the recovery time is sometimes long and even maybe chronic...YIKES!

I'll keep you posted as to my progress and there WILL be progress!

Till next time...

************2011 HAS HIT ME WITH VENGEANCE!
(Better get comfortable....this is a long posting)

The week following Christmas was at the time a good week. Daily workouts and I even had the opportunity to teach one class and all seemed fine.
Then on New Years day I awoke with a scratchy throat and by noon on Sunday I had a full blown cold....yuk! Lots of coughing so much to the point at night I actually rubbed Vick's on the souls of my feet and wore socks to bed. I read it somewhere so I tried it and OMG it worked the coughing stopped.
Out came the Netti pot just to keep the sinuses open.
I suffered through Monday and on Tuesday I felt that I needed a cardio workout so off to the Y for a good walk on the track. It felt wonderful!

It came time to do my cool down stretch. I did the right side first with a ham, quad, and calf stretch then upper body. Then the left side I got as far as the ham stretch and OMG a pain hit me in the right upper glut! I thought I would faint. All I could do was to 'deep breath' and try to straighten up.
DAMN it took so long to get out of the pain but once I did moving slowly was the answer. I had to pick up some Tylenol at the same time the heavens opened up and dumped snow to the point that driving was slow. We caught a streamer off the lake.

As I tried to manage the DAMN PAIN getting in and out of the car was HELL! I did manage to get home and safely in the house.
This moving slowly just isn't my style....I think there is a LESSON to be learned from this experience....duh...have to think about it.

Once home and settled into a comfortable position in my chair I jumped on the internet and went to the Mayo Clinic site and found out that the cause of the pain was the pinching of the sciatic nerve and icing the area was advised which I did and YIKES relief! I have only heard of people experiencing it now it has happened to me!

I realize now how it happened to me. My resistance was low do to all the intake of unhealthy food and too much salt over Christmas visit along with being out of my environment way too long. Then the 'cold' hit and along with the heavy coughing I stressed the effected area to its' limit.

My whole world came tumbling down.....so off to bed I went and slept 11 and a half hours....gee, do you think I needed the rest?
That happened thanks to the Tylenol. I have a rather high pain threshold and very seldom take anything for pain I just try to work through it.
Along with icing the area several times each day and stretching and moving I feel like a NEW WOMAN!

My dear neighbour A.M. has been checking up on me and she popped in yesterday for a visit which was lovely.
I call her my SLS...(Sweet little soul)!

Look out world I am back!!!!!!!!

Till next time

NOT A PRETTY SIGHT....

While on a walk about town I ventured over to the Maitland Trail Bridge and just look at what the ice on the river did to the 8th and 9th hole of the golf course.

I am always amazed as to how the course recovers form such an assault.

This is looking down at the river from the bridge and isn't the ice dirty?

See how fast the water is moving.

You can see the Salt Mine in the distance and that dirty ice in the foreground.

A BUNCH OF PIX FOR YOU....

I took these while out enjoying the mild weather and a good cardio....

These two are of the areas at the beach

I couldn't resist this one since it really gives you an idea of the accumulation of snow.
This photo is of an area just off the 'Square'!

JANUARY 1, 2011

The temp is almost at 50F and it is just 10:30 AM.

I popped out to take a few pix just as it started to rain to show y'all how the snow is slowly disappearing.
So scroll down and enjoy.....

What a contrast from the last time you saw the picnic table eh?

This urn arrangement is looking the worst for wear following the assault of the snow.

THE GREEN GREEN GRASS OF HOME!!!!

If you look closely you will see the ice that floats in and out as the wind changes directions. Right now is is on it's way in.

Holy smoke I can see my driveway...but not for long!
Changes are in the forecast.

Just a little snow left and since it is raining now this too may be gone soon.
